Who Can Experience Infertility?

Anyone can experience infertility. According to the World Health Organization, one in six adults across the globe struggle with infertility.1 Our providers have relationships with infertility experts outside the practice who can help.

When we refer you to a fertility specialist, they can perform fertility testing to provide an infertility diagnosis and determine the cause. They’ll create personalized treatments to help you become pregnant.

When Should I Go to the Doctor About Infertility?

You may be experiencing infertility if you have been trying to conceive for over a year without success. It is not always obvious what is causing infertility and who in a couple may be experiencing it.

If you’re considering going to a fertility specialist, we recommend the following:

  • Women under 35 should see a fertility specialist after a year of trying to conceive.
  • Women ages 35 and older should see a fertility specialist after six months of attempting to conceive.

What Causes Infertility in Women?

There are many potential causes of infertility in women, including:

  • Hormone imbalances
  • Age
  • Medications
  • Medical conditions
  • Anatomical structure issues

Can I Get Pregnant If I’m Experiencing Infertility?

You can still build a biological family, even if you’re struggling with infertility. Infertility treatments exist for both men and women. A fertility specialist can create a personalized treatment plan, which may include treatments such as:

  • Medication
  • Assisted reproductive technology, like in vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • Surgery

The right fertility treatment will be personalized to you by your fertility specialist.
