What is Robotic Surgery?

Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical option in which your provider uses a robot and specialized tools to perform your surgery. The robot allows your provider to make smaller incisions than open surgeries. One of the tools included with the surgical tools is a small camera that gives your provider a high-definition view inside your body.

Your provider controls the robot and the surgery for the entire procedure, and your surgical team will be present to assist and ensure the entire procedure continues smoothly. Your provider can answer any questions you have about robotic surgery and help reduce your anxiety about an upcoming procedure.

Robotic-assisted surgery is typically available for non-cancerous surgical procedures, such as endometriosis treatment, removing cysts and fibroids, tubal ligations, and hysterectomies.

Robotic surgeries are almost always laparoscopic surgeries because the incisions are smaller, and the robots have more dexterity than the average human for maneuvering inside the body. If you have questions about your surgery and the possibility of robotic assistance, our team can answer them. We want you to have all the information to make an informed choice about your healthcare.

What Are the Benefits of Robotic Surgery?

Robotic-assisted surgery has many benefits for patients. Since robotic surgery is minimally invasive, it causes less bleeding and a lower risk of infection than standard open surgical procedures. This leads to less healing for the body and shorter overall recovery times for patients.

Surgical scars will also be minimal, typically less than an inch long. That’s because the robotic tools only need a little space to enter the body and their increased dexterity allows your provider to complete the surgery with smaller scars.

Many of our providers are trained in robotic surgery, so you can get the care you need with a team you’re already familiar with. Some minimally invasive robotic surgical procedures can even be completed in the office.
